This is a Missorium of Theodosius I replica, work done for 3DStoa
They printed and painted it and later was shown in El Condensador de Fluzo at TVE2 (spanish TV).
Modeled mainly in ZBrush and Maya (for low poly and UV's). Substance Painter was used for texturing and Unreal Engine for rendering.
For the relief details I've used some photographs from the Internet. Since it's made of silver and it has some dark dirt in the carvings it was fairly easy to compose a heightmap (black parts match the carvings) and then in Photoshop use some brushes to paint the peaks and valleys over it. The main challenge was to tell the difference between a real bump and a reflection in some parts (I have no information on the height so I have to guess it).
For the main shape and other details I've used some references (books, studies, drawings, etc.) provided by 3DStoa.
